Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about our documents and services.
Do I need to meet with a lawyer to complete these documents?
No. You can complete your documents online using our guided interview. Every document is drafted and reviewed by Pennsylvania attorneys, so you receive legally compliant forms without needing an in‑person appointment.
Are these documents valid in Pennsylvania?
Yes. All documents are written to comply with Pennsylvania law, including required notices, acknowledgments, and signing rules for Financial Powers of Attorney, Medical Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills.
How long does it take to complete my documents?
Most people finish the interview in 10–20 minutes. Your completed documents are delivered digitally as soon as you submit your answers.
Do I need to notarize or witness my documents?
Yes. Legally-compliant Power of Attorney documents must be witnessed, and sometimes notarized, depending on the document and its purpose. For example:
Financial Power of Attorney: Must be notarized.
Medical Power of Attorney & Living Will: Require two adult witnesses.
We include clear signing instructions with every document, and will be offering online signing appointments that include remote notarization in the near future. For now, if you require remote notarization, please send an email to support@papowerofattorney.com to inquire about an appointment.
Can I make changes to my documents later?
Yes. Power of Attorney documents, including POAs that you may have signed years ago or that were obtained elsewhere can be updated by creating new documents with any changes you wish to incorporate. Our guided interviews will help collect all of the information needed for creating new documents to replace your existing or outdated documents. Your most recent signed document is the one that controls and will be effective when needed. Because it is possible to have multiple Power of Attorney documents that each appoint different people as your agent, you should specifically revoke any prior Power of Attorney document that specifies a person you no longer wish to act as your agent. If you need help revoking a prior Power of Attorney, send us an email to: support@papowerofattorney.com
Can I name more than one agent?
Yes. While we generally advice against naming two agents who must both act together to perform any task using your Power of Attorney, we do encourage naming a primary agent and one or more successor agents. A successor agent is an agent who will be able to act on your behalf if the primary agent becomes unable or unwilling to act. Our guided interviews will guide you through these choices.
Yes. Pennsylvania does not require your agent to live in the state. However, choosing someone nearby may make practical tasks easier.
If you become unable to make medical and/or financial decisions and do not have a valid POA, your family may need to petition the court for guardianship. This process is time‑consuming, expensive, and stressful. A POA helps avoid that.
No. Powers of Attorney and health‑care documents apply while you are alive. A Will or Trust controls what happens to property after death. Power of Attorney documents are essential documents that everyone should have in case of incapacity or simply to authorize another to act for you under any number of scenarios making you unable to act for yourself.
Yes. You can revoke your POA at any time as long as you have capacity. We include instructions for revocation if you ever need them. We can also help with revocation of previously drafted POA documents. Contact us at: support@papowerofattorney.com for more information.
